Bad news on the 'woot' front

My friend Jenny and I (well done) have been discussing whether or not 'woot' is a word. There was speculation that he was using this word as a joke as none of us had heard it before. Alas, I am having to admit defeat in the word war. To be fair, I haven't heard it before because it is slang that has come from computer hackers and online gamers. Damn you computer hackers. As if it isn't bad enough that you invade our privacy, you then go and invent words without telling the rest of the world about it. Just you wait. I'll have the last laugh when the Repetitive Strain Injury kicks in. Oh yes I w w w w w will. This link takes you to an urban dictionary definition of the word.

Woot and out xxx

The first person I ever heard (well, read...) use the word woot was a German girl. Only she spelt it "w00t" So yes, blame the Germans.

Yeah, I found that it was spelt that way on the Urban Dictionary. Isn't there something else that the Germans normally get blamed for? I just can't think ...

Oh those Germans.

Isn't "woot woot" what you shout in a high-pitched voice at raves?

I think it was their attempts to take over Europe and exterminate the Jewish race...or maybe it's David Hasselhoff? Yes, definitely, it's David Hasselhoff.

Hoorah for the Hoff!

Did you know that the hoff thinks he should be credited with the uniting of East & West Germany, the downfall of communism & the knocking down of the Berlin wall. I learnt this yesterday, apparently one of his songs (something about freedom) according to him, was the catalyst.

I have to agree with him. I would like to give him credit for many other things: the invention of the wheel, the first solo flight and the spread of herpes. Three cheers for the Hoff!
